President Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the call, it was reaffirmed that relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood, and good-neighborliness, and that the peoples of the two countries are linked by historical, ethnic, and religious ties.
The leaders recalled with satisfaction the Iranian president’s visits to Azerbaijan, meetings between the heads of state, and the productive negotiations they held, which made an important contribution to the development of bilateral relations. It was emphasized that construction of the road bridge across the Araz River connecting the Agbend and Kalale checkpoints is proceeding on schedule.
President Aliyev expressed concern over the situation in the region, noting Azerbaijan’s readiness to contribute to de-escalation and stressing that the country supports resolving such issues through negotiations and mutual understanding.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, for his part, expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev.
The telephone conversation also included an exchange of views on various aspects of the friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries, as well as on future joint steps. The sides agreed to continue contacts.
