President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was the first to speak, welcoming his colleague and noting that this visit is a historic event, as it marks the first official visit of the President of Guinea-Bissau to Azerbaijan. President Aliyev emphasized that this meeting demonstrates the close brotherly and friendly relations between the countries.
“We always support each other in international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement,” said Ilham Aliyev. The leaders discussed prospects for economic cooperation, including potential investment projects. Special attention was paid to cooperation in the defense industry. As part of the visit, the President of Guinea-Bissau will also visit a military unit in Azerbaijan and familiarize himself with the capabilities of the country’s defense sector.
President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló, in his speech, expressed gratitude to President Aliyev and emphasized the importance of the visit for strengthening bilateral relations. He recalled that during the Soviet era, many specialists from Guinea-Bissau studied in Azerbaijan, and now cooperation between the two countries is reaching a new level. Tomorrow, the first group of specialists from Guinea-Bissau will arrive in Azerbaijan for training in the army and police sectors.
The leaders also discussed cooperation in the fields of healthcare, education, security, and military collaboration. “We are confident that this visit will benefit both countries and contribute to strengthening our friendly ties,” noted Umaro Sissoco Embaló.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Aliyev expressed hope for the continuation of a productive dialogue and accepted the invitation to visit Guinea-Bissau for a return visit.
