An article authored by the head of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service, Colonel General Ali Naghiyev, and published in the Respublika newspaper announces that the identities of 73 additional individuals, whose remains were discovered in mass graves within the recently liberated Azerbaijani territories, will soon be revealed.
Colonel General Naghiyev stated that ongoing efforts, in coordination with the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Citizens, are being made to ascertain the fate of 3,890 individuals listed as missing during the First Karabakh War.
He further emphasized the continuation of work to locate mass grave sites in the territories liberated from occupation. The remains unearthed thus far are being exhumed and identified. Notably, 107 individuals previously considered missing have been identified to date. Among them is a notable security officer and national hero of Azerbaijan, Riyad Ahmadov, who disappeared during the Dashalti operation in January 1992. The names of 34 of these individuals have already been publicly disclosed. The remaining 73 will be made known to the public in the forthcoming days, according to Naghiyev’s statement.
