The Western Azerbaijan Community has repeatedly called on the Armenian government for dialogue, but the opposing side has refused, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in an address to participants of the international conference on the topic “The Right to Return: Ensuring Justice for Azerbaijanis Forcibly Expelled from Armenia.”
“Armenia must begin negotiations with the community and take practical steps toward restoring the fundamental rights of Western Azerbaijanis. Furthermore, Armenia should grant permission for a UNESCO mission to visit and monitor the situation concerning the destruction and distortion of the historical and cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people and cooperate on this matter.
It is crucial for the international community to support peaceful initiatives, in accordance with international law, aimed at ensuring the right of Western Azerbaijan Community members to return to their native lands. These initiatives, based on the successfully implemented Return Concept, will make a significant contribution to the safe and dignified return of Western Azerbaijanis to their homeland,” said Aliyev.
