President Aliyev stated, “These sanctions have no right to exist, especially when they are illegal and imposed absolutely unjustifiably and selectively.” The President emphasized that Azerbaijan categorically opposes all sanctions and called on the international community to express a collective position on this issue.
He also recalled that sanctions against Azerbaijan were imposed in 1992 based on false accusations of blocking Armenia. These sanctions were lifted in 2001 when the United States needed to transit goods through Azerbaijan for its operations in Afghanistan but were reimposed after the conclusion of those operations.
