Strategic partners China and Azerbaijan maintain a sincere and mutually beneficial relationship. The friendship between our countries has historical roots going back thousands of years, and these ties continue to evolve, influencing historical processes.
This statement was made by Liu Jianchao, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and head of its International Department, during the conference held in Baku titled “Azerbaijani-Chinese Strategic Partnership: Promoting Consolidation and Cooperation in the Global South.”
“Last year, the presidents of both countries jointly announced the elevation of China-Azerbaijan relations to the level of a strategic partnership. This marked a new starting point for the development of bilateral ties. We support each other based on mutual trust and are following our chosen paths of development. Currently, China is expanding its efforts in state-building. At the same time, we know that Azerbaijan is implementing a National Development Program aimed at socio-economic progress, projected until 2030. This path is based on national interests and aims to eliminate external interference. We strive for modernization and mutual progress.
The economic structures of China and Azerbaijan complement each other, facilitating shared success. Chinese partners are supporting sustainable development in Azerbaijan, and we have several key joint projects in this direction. Among them are the construction of a solar power plant in Garadagh and the wide introduction of BYD electric vehicles in Azerbaijan. Additionally, cooperation between China and Azerbaijan is actively developing in the scientific field. The two countries are getting to know each other better, strengthening their ties. I believe that cooperation in green energy and the digital economy between our countries will reach a new level,” stated the representative of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Speaking on the current global turbulence, Liu Jianchao added: “The world is undergoing serious changes. Since the beginning of this year, the global situation has experienced major upheavals. States are facing instability and uncertainty. New challenges are emerging in Eurasia. China and Azerbaijan are important countries on this continent, and the strengthening of their mutual cooperation and respect inspires confidence during this unstable period.
It is especially important to highlight the development of the telecommunications sector, which connects Asia and Europe. The Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor has strategic significance in this context. Moreover, the transportation of energy from the Absheron Peninsula to China and the development of the Digital Silk Road give new momentum to our cooperation. All of this opens up new opportunities and prospects for our countries. China and Azerbaijan are jointly reinforcing the spirit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, supporting the principles of mutual respect and multilateral partnership among states. We are contributing to the promotion of peace and security.”
