Ruben Vardanyan and his cronies announced the “suspension” of operations at Demirli (Armenian name Kashen) mine. Base Metals, the company that carries out the mining there, stated solemnly that operations had been suspended until an independent expert examination was conducted, and that it had allegedly already contacted the UN (!) and relevant international organizations requesting that they send experts, etc.
This is obviously another underhanded ploy. The environmental protesters on the Lachin-Shusha-Agdam road demanded and continue to demand not the assessment by “experts” who are “independent” of the law, decency and International Law to the point of being willing to accept the separatists’ invitation. The demand of the protesters is clear and well-known: the mines must be monitored professionally by the relevant government agencies of Azerbaijan, first and foremost by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Economy.
Moreover, according to reliable sources, “experts” invited by the separatists will not be allowed into the territory of our country. Conducting monitoring, expert examinations and other assessments of mineral deposits in Azerbaijan is a sovereign right of our country, and Azerbaijan does not intend to share this right with anyone. Least of all with individuals and organizations willing to cooperate with separatists—and no reliable and honest organization would get involved with separatists.
