Back in the times of the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani lands, this “conciliator” of the parties, who was supposed to be neutral by status, let himself make absurd invectives towards Baku, referring, so to speak, to the “Armenian radio” of the new time, which in the Soviet era served as the main source of rumors and anecdotes. The reason for a new outburst of eloquence of this character was the recent remarks of the US Ambassador to Armenia Christine Quinn on the air of Yerevan Public Television about the possibility of safe residence of Armenians under Azerbaijan.
“We believe and hope that such a thing is possible, and we also believe that the parties should make a joint effort to make it a reality. The United States believes that this is the right approach,” the American diplomat expressed Washington’s position. This approach to the issue expectedly hurt the best feelings of the Armenians, who trusted so much in Armenian friends. Armenian media started to discuss the issue from all sides. Warlick, a faithful friend of Armenians, joined them as the main expert on the issue.
“I am not familiar with the entire context of the US ambassador’s statement. I think it is too early to make such statements. `Nagorno-Karabakh” should be provided with security guarantees. Of course, ethnic cleansing is out of the question. This issue should be resolved at the highest level. President Aliyev must provide guarantees that there will be no ethnic cleansing in `Nagorno-Karabakh’, that he will respect the rights of the people of ‘Nagorno-Karabakh’ and is ready to offer the people of ‘Nagorno-Karabakh’ a certain ‘status’ within Azerbaijan. All of this has yet to materialize,” Warlick enthused.
It is noteworthy that along with his highly valuable remarks, Warlick also made some quite adequate judgments. For instance, he stated that opening communications would reduce Armenia’s dependence on Russia. And the opening of the border with Turkey will simply be manna from heaven for Armenia.
Somewhat surprisingly, when asked whether the US had vital interests in the South Caucasus or simply wanted to weaken the influence of Russia and Iran there, Warlick replied that Washington had always been attracted to the region.
“To this, of course, we have added interests in Azerbaijan’s energy sector, but it is not limited to that either. We are interested in preserving stability in the South Caucasus, and we have many personal and cultural ties with Armenia. There is a large Armenian-American community in the USA, which has very close ties with Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, which is important for the USA,” the Armenian henchman admitted. That is, we count on Azerbaijan in terms of energy, but with Armenians, pure, uncontaminated selfless love. But did the thought cross Warlick’s mind as to why you surrendered to the Azerbaijanis then?
No neutrality, no objectivity, and besides, judging by his statements, this US citizen is much more concerned about the interests of Armenians than Americans. It is clear that such a tender fondness, I quite admit, has been generously rewarded since the times of the Minsk Group functioning. Maybe, there was a break, but now Warlick is obviously “interested”, otherwise why would he again shine on the South Caucasus sky and start talking about “infringed rights of Armenians”.
At the same time, Warlick emphasized the “status of Nagorno-Karabakh”, pointing out that allegedly, no lasting peace could be achieved without the settlement of this issue.
Undeniably, the position of the retired co-chairman of the defunct group has no influence on the negotiations, it is just one of the tools of Armenian propaganda. Much more importantly, Armenia itself is a bargaining chip for the promotion of US interests in the region. The official position of the United States on the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan remains unchanged: Washington, as before, supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and advocates direct dialogue between the parties to the conflict. At the same time, it insists that the negotiations be moderated by Washington.
As for the puppet mission of Warlick and his “colleagues in the State Department, the European Parliament or the French Senate,” it is obvious that behind the propaganda, there are the ears of Armenianism, which, however, will not be able to change anything on earth.
