Azerbaijan could emerge as a regional logistics hub for Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba, Ayhan Gadashov, head of the Azexport.az portal, told Minval. He noted that the initialing of the peace treaty text between Azerbaijan and Armenia, with the participation of the US President, along with new political realities in the region, is also expanding Azerbaijan’s access to global e-commerce markets.
“The new logistics reality will reduce delivery times to US and European markets. Faster access to Turkish ports and proximity to both eastern and western markets could turn the country into a potential regional logistics hub for giants such as Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba,” the portal head said.
Today, Azexport helps Azerbaijani products enter international markets. To this end, the platform promotes Azerbaijani goods through 15 international e-commerce platforms and online sales channels.
Commenting on the matter to Minval, economist Emin Garibli said that the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia will encourage investment flows into the region. This, in turn, will transform Azerbaijan into a transport hub. Therefore, it is possible that offices of world-famous trading platforms could open here in the future. It is no secret that Azexport itself was established in the style of well-known international trade platforms. Following the measures taken, goods from China will reach Europe via Azerbaijan along a shorter route.
“The opening of representative offices of trading companies will naturally be possible only with specific initiatives. Then we will also have the opportunity to integrate our existing platforms into those of foreign companies, as well as create new ones. We hope that in the future, well-known e-commerce companies will establish their offices in Azerbaijan,” the economist said.
The development of the trade and logistics network will also allow Azerbaijan to cultivate its own workforce in this field. In addition, the creation of new infrastructure will promote the liberalization of the country’s economy, enabling it to integrate into the global economy. The adoption of new technologies will also become more relevant.
Location of Logistics Hubs
According to open-source data, as of April 2025, Amazon Logistics operates about 1,200 logistics facilities worldwide, including roughly 350 fulfillment centers (FCs), 180 sorting centers, 550 delivery stations, 45 cross-docks, and 30 Prime Air gateways. More than 110 fulfillment centers and about 600 logistics sites are located in the US. In Europe, there are over 45 fulfillment centers, including in the UK, Germany, Spain, Poland, and others. Amazon also has facilities in Asia (Japan, India, Singapore, etc.).
eBay does not have a large warehouse network. However, through eBay Enterprise (now Radial, Inc., headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania), the company operated several fulfillment centers in the US, Canada, and the UK. eBay has launched logistics programs in Germany, including eBay Fulfillment, offering storage, packaging, delivery, and tracking for sellers.
The logistics network of Alibaba Group is managed by its logistics arm, Cainiao Network, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Hangzhou. Cainiao coordinates a network of logistics parks, warehouse complexes, parcel lockers, and pickup points across China and also handles delivery for AliExpress and Tmall. Alibaba’s main hubs are located in China — Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport — and in Europe — Liège Airport, Belgium.
