As a result of the massacre in Balligaya on August 28, 1992, 24 peaceful Azerbaijani residents were brutally killed, including 6 minors, a 6-month-old baby, and a 93-year-old elderly woman. The bodies of some victims, mainly children, women, and the elderly, were burned. Three minors lost both parents as a result of the massacre.
The Balligaya massacre is remembered as one of a series of mass killings carried out by Armenian armed forces in the village of Garadaghly in the Khojavend District, the town of Khojaly, and the village of Agdaban in the Kalbajar District, aimed at the destruction of the Azerbaijani population of Karabakh.
