In the rapidly evolving modern world, ensuring innovation, economic growth, and societal advancement has become an urgent priority. Achieving these goals requires not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills and competencies that directly address the ever-changing demands of the labor market. To respond effectively to these needs, it is essential to prepare professionals who are well-equipped with both academic knowledge and hands-on experience. In this context, University-Business Cooperation has emerged as a crucial element for bridging the gap between the education system and the practical requirements of the workforce.

This collaboration model brings together the unique strengths of both universities and businesses. Universities contribute to the partnership by offering research, academic expertise, and well-trained graduates, while businesses provide real-world challenges, practical experience, financial support, and employment opportunities. This partnership benefits both sides: universities gain valuable insights into industry needs and trends, helping them keep their curricula relevant, while businesses get access to a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of the modern economy.

The core aim of University-Business Cooperation is to align education and research with the evolving economic and social needs of society. By integrating academic knowledge with industry demands, this partnership helps bridge the gap between the theoretical and practical realms. Furthermore, it fosters an environment where both sectors can work together to create innovative solutions, address pressing societal challenges, and promote economic growth. Ultimately, this collaboration plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of education, business, and society at large, ensuring that future generations are well-prepared to succeed in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

The University and business cooperation center was established by BERC&Partners, a business services ecosystem specialized in providing business research, business establishment, business management services, as well as consulting in these areas. It also focuses on developing professionals with the practical skills required by businesses to meet their needs.

The company started its operations in 2018 with a team of 5 people specialized in the field of finance and offered financial, accounting, tax accounting and consulting services to companies, individual entrepreneurs, especially small and medium-sized entrepreneurs. Over time, the range of services and spheres of activity have been expanded in accordance with the company’s strategic vision and turned into a business services ecosystem. BERC&Partners is a business services ecosystem where complex services can be provided to businesses from a platform where experts with rich experience in business management and academic and economic research work together.

Currently BERC&Partners has more than 80 different specialized personnel on a permanent basis and also collaborates with more than 45 freelance experts to implement these services. In order to further enrich the ecosystem, it works together with various specialized partner companies in some areas.

This initiative aims to strengthen the link between academic institutions and businesses, fostering a collaborative environment that benefits both sectors. By creating this platform, the center facilitates the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and resources between universities and businesses, enabling a more seamless integration of theoretical education and practical experience.

Memorandums of understanding have already been signed with several local universities, including the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) and Mingachevir State University, among others.

These memorandums create a legal framework for long-term cooperation, define mutual responsibilities and objectives between the parties, and create a strong basis for ensuring the successful implementation of joint projects. The signing of the memorandums allows the application of innovative approaches in the following key areas:

  • Implementation of joint activities, coordination of incubation and acceleration activities between “BERC&Partners” and universities for the development and support of startup building activities;
  • Organization and implementation of training and service activities in corporate and individual directions together with the universities’ Education Centers;
  • Implementation of joint research projects, organization of conferences, training, and seminars;
  • Involvement of university students in internship programs at “BERC&Partners” and partner companies and projects;
  • By mutual agreement, the involvement of “BERC&Partners” specialists and training staff as guest lecturers in the educational activities of the universities;
  • Holding “Career Days” at the universities to inform students about the activities of “BERC&Partners” and current personnel demands.

Within the framework of cooperation with universities, various initiatives are implemented in order to adapt academic research to the needs of the business world.

  • Joint scientific research projects in the fields of finance, economics and management.
  • Adaptation of university laboratories to the innovation requirements of the business world.
  • Organization of seminars and lectures by our company’s specialists for university students.

Cooperation with financial institutions is important in the commercialization and transformation of university research into economic value.

  • Creation of financial support models for startups.
  • Promoting financial literacy programs in universities.
  • Implementation of projects on the application of science and technology in the financial sector.

Cooperation between education and the business world plays an important role in training young professionals and preparing them for the job market.

Internship programs: University students are given real work experience.

Mentoring programs: Individual mentoring initiatives are implemented to develop leadership and professional skills of young people.

Project competitions: The organization of various economic and technological project competitions among university students helps to identify talented young people.

The company that founded the center, BERC&Partners, also operates as a regional management operator for several government agencies. BERC&Partners is the managing operator of the Lankaran and Mingachevir KOBİM’s of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
