A meeting between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump was held in Davos.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the development of relations between the two countries in various fields following Donald Trump’s return to power.
The historical role of President Donald Trump in achieving the August 8 agreements in Washington, related to advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, was highlighted.
The head of state addressed the steps being taken to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Noting that peace has already been established in the region, President Ilham Aliyev said this is also reflected in the development of trade relations between the two countries. In particular, he emphasized the export of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as the delivery of imported grain to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan.
The president also noted that the Zangezur Corridor, including the TRIPP project, plays an important role in enhancing regional connectivity.
During the talks, the significance of the Peace Council, established under the chairmanship of the U.S. president, was discussed. Its importance in strengthening peace in the Middle East and contributing to the resolution of global conflicts was underscored. Azerbaijan’s invitation to join the Peace Council as a founding state was assessed as a manifestation of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States and of Azerbaijan’s role in promoting peace worldwide.
The two heads of state also exchanged views on the prospects for bilateral relations and emphasized the role of mutual visits and contacts at various levels in deepening cooperation.
