At the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in Tashkent, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that relations between Azerbaijan and the countries of the region have evolved into a strategic partnership based on deep historical, spiritual, and cultural ties. He noted that these centuries-old bonds, built on brotherhood and solidarity, have not only been preserved but have gained new momentum, strengthening long-term cooperation.
The head of state highlighted that, despite Azerbaijan’s geographical location in the South Caucasus, active cooperation has led to the emergence of a shared geopolitical and geo-economic space with Central Asia. This provides an opportunity for the countries to coordinate positions within international organizations and support each other’s initiatives on major global and regional issues. Aliyev expressed gratitude for the decision to include Azerbaijan in the institutional cooperation format of Central Asian states, describing it as a clear demonstration of sincere friendship and fraternal partnership.
Special attention was given to the development of the Middle Corridor as a strategic transport and logistics route connecting East and West, North and South. According to the president, infrastructure modernization along with synchronization and digitalization of customs procedures create favorable conditions for increased cargo flows and economic resilience. Over the past three years, cargo transportation via the route passing through Azerbaijan has grown by 90 percent. He also expressed confidence that the agreements reached in Washington in August on linking mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as the ongoing construction of the Zangezur corridor, will significantly strengthen regional transit capacity. The new railway line, designed to handle 15 million tons in the initial phase, will serve as a key component of this transport system.
President Aliyev also underlined the fraternal support provided by Central Asian countries in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories. In Fuzuli, a school named after Mirzo Ulugbek and a children’s creativity center named after Kurmangazy are already operating, while a school named after Manas has been inaugurated in Aghdam. In October, the foundation of a new mosque was laid with support from Turkmenistan. Aliyev stressed that these initiatives will forever remain a symbol of friendship, solidarity, and mutual support.
