Azerbaijan is strengthening its position as one of the key energy suppliers across a wide geographic area, President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group.
The head of state noted that Azerbaijan currently holds a leading position in terms of the geography of pipeline gas supplies.
“We supply natural gas to 16 countries, and the number of these countries is growing every year. This will continue,” President Aliyev said.
According to him, Azerbaijan has become an important player in the global energy market by initiating and implementing major infrastructure projects in the energy sector.
The president emphasized that the country’s energy projects cover a broad Eurasian geography and have helped states facing a shortage of energy resources.
Aliyev also noted that Azerbaijan continues to invest heavily in infrastructure. These investments, he said, are not limited to domestic development, but also include Azerbaijan’s participation in major international infrastructure projects beyond its borders.
The remarks underline Azerbaijan’s growing role as both an energy supplier and a regional infrastructure actor connecting markets across Eurasia.
