Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to FRANCE 24 on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, outlining his assessment of regional peace, relations with Western partners, and ongoing geopolitical projects.
During the conversation, Aliyev stated that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia has effectively been achieved following the August summit at the White House, describing the process as politically complete from Baku’s perspective. At the same time, he rejected the possibility of granting clemency to imprisoned former Nagorno-Karabakh separatist leaders, emphasizing that the legal proceedings against them would continue.
The Azerbaijani leader also addressed infrastructure initiatives, expressing strong confidence in the implementation of the TRIPP corridor, which is expected to connect Azerbaijan’s exclave of Nakhchivan to Europe through Armenia. According to Aliyev, the project represents a key element of the emerging regional connectivity framework.
Commenting on relations with France, which deteriorated sharply after the 2023 escalation, Aliyev said contacts with President Emmanuel Macron in late 2025 opened the door to a gradual reset, noting that both sides agreed to “restart” dialogue despite previous disagreements.
