This was stated by the representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, Elchin Amirbayov, in an interview with the BBC’s Newshour program.
“This has nothing to do with forced resettlement or any desire of Azerbaijan for them to leave. They really have a choice. It is important to emphasize that we called on them to stay and be a part of a multi-ethnic Azerbaijan. Look at what the Azerbaijani authorities have been doing over the past few days – delivering all kinds of humanitarian aid, essential goods, medicines, sending fire trucks, and we have already established round-the-clock electricity supply,” he noted.
According to him, Armenians who have left Azerbaijan will be able to return.
He added that Azerbaijan strongly condemns and rejects the statement made by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, about the so-called “ethnic cleansing” allegedly taking place in Karabakh.
“He is not only retracting his own statements from September 21 when he said that there was no threat to local Armenians from the Azerbaijani authorities, but his statement is also aimed at undermining Azerbaijan’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid and the process of reintegrating local Armenians. It also undermines the potential prospects for a peaceful agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the representative of the president noted.
