Armenia may consider purchasing natural gas from Azerbaijan, Iran or Turkmenistan if the price of Russian gas rises.

Mesrop Mesropyan, Chairman of Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission, said during a briefing in parliament that Yerevan is looking at all regional countries that export gas and have the necessary infrastructure to supply Armenia.

According to him, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran are among the possible alternatives.

“There are alternatives in neighbouring territories: Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan or Iran. Naturally, we will consider all countries that sell gas and whose infrastructure allows us to buy it,” Mesropyan said.

He also noted that even if the price of Russian gas increases, current tariffs for consumers in Armenia will remain unchanged at least until the beginning of 2027.
