The Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan for Foreign Policy, Hikmet Hajiyev, visited Iran on an official trip, during which he met with the Political Adviser to the President of Iran, Mehdi Sanaei. This was reported by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran.
During the meeting, the sides discussed key issues of bilateral relations and prospects for regional cooperation. Hikmet Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan is focused on strengthening cooperation with Iran in all areas, including politics, economics, and culture. He noted that Baku aims to develop relations with Tehran in the spirit of good neighborliness, based on mutual interests and without limitations, with a focus on the key task of strengthening trust between the two countries and eliminating potential misunderstandings.
In turn, Mehdi Sanaei highlighted that Azerbaijan is not only an important neighboring state but also a country with which Iran has deep historical and cultural ties. He emphasized that the current level of relations between the countries does not reflect their potential and should be expanded to include the private sector and people-to-people diplomacy. Sanaei also stated that Iran seeks strategic partnerships with its neighbors, including Azerbaijan, and underlined the need to intensify economic cooperation between the two countries, given the low current volume of trade.
Special attention was given to attracting the business community and the private sector to implement large-scale economic projects that will help strengthen sustainable ties between the two countries and elevate their relations to a new level.
