“It is well-known that Armenia has grossly violated its obligations under arms control mechanisms and international treaties recognizing the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan for 30 years. During the occupation of our territories, Armenia concealed a significant part of its military equipment and weapons systems from international arms control mechanisms and illegally placed them on the territory of Azerbaijan,” said Aykhan Hajizada, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, responding to a question from local media about recent statements made by the Prime Minister of Armenia.
“Given this, as well as the fact that Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that his country conducts a serious policy of militarization, that contracts worth several billion dollars for the supply of weapons have been signed in recent years, and the military industry has been developed, the assertion that Armenia is seriously committed to the peace process is a political manipulation. This is an obstacle to further development and progress of the region based on respect for the norms and principles of international law. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, will continue its peacekeeping and constructive efforts and expects Armenia to take adequate steps – not just in words, but in deeds,” the Foreign Ministry representative said.
