Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan announced that, under the peace agreement initialed in the United States with Azerbaijan, the parties have agreed to set up working groups to unblock transport communications. He noted that the opening of roads passing through Azerbaijan’s territory is a bilateral process and will be implemented on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.
Khudatyan stressed that the unblocking of routes will take place with full respect for Armenia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence, which he described as an important factor in the country’s development. The minister pointed out that, although “ominous comments” had previously been made regarding the peace agreement, the publication of the text showed that it contains “nothing terrible, tragic, or sinister” for Armenia.
According to Khudatyan, the agreement will give the republic access to unblocked roads while preserving all key principles of state sovereignty, and accelerated steps are already being taken to open the routes.
