Azerbaijan and South Korea look to expand cooperation in technology, trade and connectivity

Azerbaijan and South Korea have discussed prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on political dialogue, trade, investment, digital development and energy security.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with a delegation led by South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won, who is visiting Azerbaijan.

During the talks, the sides reviewed the current state of Azerbaijan-South Korea relations and exchanged views on new areas of cooperation.

Bayramov noted the steady development of bilateral ties and emphasized Azerbaijan’s growing role as a transport and logistics hub between Europe and Asia. He also highlighted the importance of the Middle Corridor as one of the key routes connecting the two continents.

The meeting also covered cooperation in digital transformation, innovation and high technologies. The sides discussed opportunities in education, including double-degree programs and the establishment of the Baku State Vocational Education Center based on Korean standards.

Energy security, renewable energy and the green transition were also among the topics discussed.

Bayramov informed the Korean side about Azerbaijan’s decision to introduce a visa-free regime for all types of South Korean passports. He also briefed the delegation on the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The sides exchanged views on the results of the recent Washington summit and its importance for regional cooperation.

On the same day, Azerbaijan and South Korea also held another round of political consultations between their foreign ministries. The consultations were led by Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won.
