Azerbaijan is preparing the necessary documents for the return of its citizens rescued in the Sea of Azov, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
According to the ministry, after receiving information about Azerbaijani citizens killed and injured in a drone attack on cargo vessels in the Sea of Azov on June 5, employees of Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Russia immediately traveled to the area of the incident.
“Representatives of the consular section of the Embassy are currently in the city of Yeysk and are providing the necessary consular assistance to the injured, as well as to the rescued Azerbaijani citizens. The condition of the injured is assessed as satisfactory, and some of them are expected to be discharged from hospital soon,” the statement said.
The ministry noted that, as part of search and rescue operations carried out by the relevant Russian authorities, work continues to identify the victims and complete other necessary procedures.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said it is keeping the matter under special control and maintaining close coordination with relevant agencies.
The public will be additionally informed once the identities of the deceased are established and their bodies are repatriated to Azerbaijan, the ministry added.
