On March 19, the Government of Azerbaijan officially handed over the ratification documents of the D-8 (Developing-8) Charter to the Secretariat of the Organization for Economic Cooperation D-8 in Istanbul, thereby completing the process of Azerbaijan’s accession to the organization as a full member, the organization reports.
As noted, the 11th summit of heads of state and government of the D-8 member countries, held on December 19, 2024, in Cairo, Egypt, unanimously approved Azerbaijan’s application for membership in the organization.
“Following this summit decision, Azerbaijan initiated the ratification process of the D-8 Charter, which was a necessary condition for joining the organization. As part of this process, the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan adopted Law No. 149-VIIQ on the ratification of the D-8 Charter on March 7, 2025, which was then signed by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, thereby officially bringing it into force.
Undoubtedly, Azerbaijan’s accession as the ninth member of D-8 marks a significant milestone in the development of the organization. This event will open new opportunities and strengthen cooperation among member states in achieving the goals and objectives outlined in its Charter,” the organization’s statement reads.
