Several Azerbaijani government agencies have strengthened bilateral ties with their Japanese counterparts by signing a series of memorandums of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation across key sectors.

These agreements were inked during the 12th joint meeting of the State Commission for Economic Cooperation between Japan and Azerbaijan and the Japan-Azerbaijan Economic Committee, which convened in Tokyo, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

Among the key accords, the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Japanese business association ROTOBO. Additionally, the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan entered into agreements with both ROTOBO and the Japanese firm Tairiku Trading.

Ahead of the formal session, a bilateral meeting took place between the co-chairs—SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and ITOCHU Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer, Tetsuya Yamada. During this discussion, both parties explored existing and future avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

“The meeting highlighted that relations between Azerbaijan and Japan are successfully developing in various fields based on mutual understanding and respect. It was noted that strong partnerships have been formed in economic, social, and humanitarian areas. The parties discussed cooperation opportunities with Japanese companies in applying and integrating digital technologies and innovative solutions into the economy,” the official report conveyed.

The dialogue also underscored expansive prospects for deepening collaboration in diverse sectors including industry, agriculture, transportation, energy, infrastructure, communications, and advanced technology.

Moreover, the session drew attention to the significant investment potential within Azerbaijan’s recently liberated territories, which boast abundant natural resources, burgeoning green energy capabilities, improving infrastructure, and favorable government incentives designed to attract foreign investment. Japanese enterprises were specifically encouraged to consider opportunities in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions.

The meeting concluded with the signing of the official protocol of the 12th joint session by Najaf and Yamada, marking a milestone in the continued strengthening of Azerbaijani-Japanese cooperation.
