The new line will facilitate faster cargo flows along the Middle Corridor and ensure operational efficiency, according to the authorities. For the recent opening ceremony the port of Zira dispatched its first sulphur train to Europe on the new line.
The train was operated by Azerbaijan Railways and carried 13,000 t of the element. The range of cargo types will be expanded in the next phase. Plans envisage transporting 60,000 t of sulphur a month by train from the port of Zira.
