This statement was made by the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykhan Hajizade, in response to baseless allegations against Azerbaijan made by France’s Minister for Overseas Territories, Manuel Valls, in an interview with BFMTV.
According to Hajizade, the absurd accusations leveled against Azerbaijan by Manuel Valls, who openly advocates France’s colonial policies and claims that his country exists “in three oceans and on five continents,” are nothing more than yet another manifestation of France’s inability to come to terms with the loss of its influence in its so-called “overseas territories.”
“Minister Manuel Valls, who describes his country as a ‘unique power,’ himself acknowledges how weak his arguments are in the face of the acts of violence occurring in France’s overseas territories and the suppression of movements advocating for independence,” the MFA representative stated.
He added that the minister’s remarks about France’s willingness to sacrifice fundamental principles such as freedom of thought and independence when its “strategic interests” are at stake clearly reflect the country’s double standards.
“We demand that France put an end to its baseless slanderous campaign against our country,” Hajizade concluded.
