The Ministry of Science and Education is expanding its overseas study programs. As Minval Politika reports, the ministry has approved a list of priority fields of study for the 2026/2027 academic year under the State Program for Educating Young People at Prestigious Foreign Universities for 2022–2028.
As early as next year, the state will fully finance the education of Azerbaijani students across 4,121 academic programs at 231 prestigious universities in 33 countries.
As in previous years, the annual quota for state-funded study remains 500 students. Within this quota, depending on the number of applications, minimum entry scores may be applied for priority fields in order to regulate competition. It is worth noting that, in addition to the 15 priority specializations under the state program, opportunities in the field of “Culture and Arts” have been expanded this year. Compared to last year, the number of prestigious higher education institutions included in this category has increased.
But which specialists will Azerbaijan need most in the coming years? The answer lies in the structure of the program itself. According to the published data, over the next five years the government will allocate funding for the training of nuclear specialists. In particular, scholarships will be available to applicants admitted to universities in Korea, China, Malaysia, Russia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, and Turkey. The largest number of programs is offered by universities in countries that are nuclear powers.
Azerbaijan also places special emphasis on the continued training of energy specialists, including in the field of green energy.
In addition, those planning to pursue studies in aerospace sciences and astrophysics will be eligible to apply for state scholarships. The country has an acute need for bioengineers, microbiologists, biotechnologists, biologists, chemists, mathematicians, specialists in quantum science, computer technologies, artificial intelligence, computer science, cybersecurity, agriculture, economics, food management, and related fields.
