The Azerbaijani diaspora organization Allianz der Aserbaidschaner in Deutschland e.V. has issued a statement regarding the recent parliamentary elections in Armenia, calling on international institutions to apply uniform standards when assessing electoral processes.
The statement, signed by the organization’s Chairman of the Board, Altay Rustamov, emphasizes that democracy, the rule of law, and electoral integrity must be assessed on the basis of universal principles rather than geopolitical convenience.
The organization expressed concern that many Western political actors and institutions, in its view, have failed to demonstrate sufficient critical scrutiny regarding reports of possible irregularities in the Armenian elections, administrative pressure on opposition forces, and the alleged misuse of state resources.
“While similar allegations in other countries often trigger strong public criticism, international investigations, or even discussions of sanctions, the reaction in this case has been markedly different,” the statement said.
Allianz der Aserbaidschaner in Deutschland e.V. believes that such selectivity may undermine trust in international democratic institutions and in the values they claim to uphold. The organization stressed that standards of transparency and accountability should be applied equally to all countries, regardless of their geopolitical orientation or strategic importance.
The statement also voiced concern over reports of possible involvement by external political or advisory structures in shaping the electoral environment. According to the organization, any allegations of foreign influence on domestic democratic processes should be taken seriously and subjected to independent scrutiny.
The Azerbaijani diaspora organization declared its support for peace, stability, and constructive regional cooperation in the South Caucasus based on international law and mutual respect.
In conclusion, Allianz der Aserbaidschaner in Deutschland e.V. called on international organizations, election observers, and democratic institutions to assess elections in all countries according to the same transparent criteria, without favoritism or political bias.
