This commitment, made as Azerbaijan prepares to host the COP29 Climate Change Conference, underscores its dedication to green energy and climate action.
Since ratifying the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1995 and the Kyoto Protocol in 2000, Azerbaijan has aimed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, targeting a 35% reduction by 2030 from 1990 levels. The country updated its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in 2023, aiming for a 40% reduction by 2050 and announcing plans to transform the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions into a decarbonization zone by the same year.
Hosting COP29 highlights Azerbaijan’s role as a proactive member of the global fight against climate change, further solidifying its position as a key player in the transition to a low-carbon, green economy.
