The protest by environmental activists is the mildest form of response to the resumption of exploitation of the Gizilgaya deposit and the export of concentrate to Armenia, said political scientist and MP Rasim Musabekov.
“If Vardanyan, Arayik and others do not get this signal, they should know that Baku can destroy the mine through an air missile strike. The cars with gold-bearing concentrate may be stopped on the road and arrested. Needless to say, the Karabakh Armenians receive electricity and gas from Armenia through cables and a pipeline, which is under Azerbaijani control. I hope that the leaders of the separatist regime have enough common sense to heed the protests of environmental activists and stop illegal mining in the deposits. It is hardly in their interests to bring the conflict to the stage when Baku will be forced to use the strong tools at its disposal,” he posted on his Facebook page.
