He mentioned this to journalists in his pool upon returning from the NATO summit in the United States.
“Why not consider this issue [of opening the border]? We have already discussed this with [Armenian Prime Minister Nikol] Pashinyan earlier. Now we need to do everything for peace. We hope that a lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be achieved soon, which Turkey wholeheartedly supports. The opening of the Zangezur Corridor is the final step of this agreement. We want positive decisions on this path to be made without delay. Positive signals are coming from the region now, and we hope they will eventually bring good news,” Anadolu agency quoted Erdogan as saying.
He noted, in response to a related question, that he did not discuss the issue of the Zangezur Corridor with the new President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
“I only congratulated him on his election victory. The Zangezur Corridor is a strategic route that will benefit everyone, especially Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Iran. Iran and Azerbaijan will feel it will be easier for them when the corridor is operational, and the railway branch is put into operation,” Erdogan said.
