During the meeting, it was once again conveyed that the activities of the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia, contradicting the initial agreements, cause serious concern.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that a recent incident related to the prevention of illegal border crossing in regions under the EU Monitoring Mission’s purview casts a shadow on the stated objectives of this mission.
The EU Monitoring Mission has become an agent of “binocular diplomacy,” facilitating the organization of visits to border areas by various European officials and unofficial delegations.
“All such visits are conducted with the aim of inciting hatred towards Azerbaijan and unjustified Azerbaijanophobia. It is particularly worrying that this activity of ‘binocular diplomacy’ is observed during a period when there is unprecedented calm along the border, and both Azerbaijan and Armenia are taking serious steps to build trust,” the statement noted.
