Israeli political scientist Mikhail Finkel told Minval.az that Hezbollah had purchased these devices in Europe, and Mossad agents inserted a percentage of explosives during their assembly, which detonated when Israel pressed the trigger. Finkel emphasized that this operation demonstrates Israel’s close monitoring of Hezbollah and sends a strong message to Iran, showcasing Israel’s extensive knowledge and reach.
He noted that Israel has been at war with Hezbollah since the group gained significant power in Lebanon. Over the past year, the conflict has escalated into a “hot” phase, with daily rocket attacks from Hezbollah and significant casualties on both sides.
Finkel compared Hezbollah’s dominance in Lebanon to the Nazi SS during World War II and described Israel’s ongoing efforts to target Hezbollah, while avoiding Lebanon’s regular army. He highlighted the harsh living conditions for Israeli citizens in northern regions near the Lebanese border, who have been displaced for nearly a year due to the conflict.
According to Finkel, Israel may soon have to launch a ground operation to destroy Hezbollah’s border forces and occupy parts of southern Lebanon to protect its citizens, just as it did before 2000.
In addition, he mentioned that operations in Gaza are ongoing and could take another year. Israel is gradually redeploying its troops to the northern border in preparation for a strike against Hezbollah.
Finally, Finkel stressed that the operation sent a crucial message to Iran and other adversaries, signaling that Israel monitors all their actions, including equipment purchases and supply chains. He affirmed that Israel can neutralize any threat, anywhere in the world, and will always retaliate for any attack against its citizens, even if decades pass.
