German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender will visit the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan from March 30 to April 2. This marks the first official visit of a German Federal President to these countries.
During his stay in Armenia, Steinmeier will meet with President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan. He will also visit the TUMO technology education center and attend a cultural reception. On the second day of his visit, he will travel to Dilijan, where he will meet with Armenian women entrepreneurs and learn about an urban development project. Additionally, the President will visit Lake Sevan, where he will tour an Armenian church and a hydrometeorology and monitoring center that operates in partnership with the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research.
During his visit to Azerbaijan, Steinmeier will meet with President Ilham Aliyev. In Baku, he will visit the city’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and participate in a discussion on interfaith understanding and tolerance with Christian, Muslim, and Jewish religious leaders. Furthermore, he will join a discussion on the situation of women in Azerbaijan.
This visit highlights the importance of Germany’s bilateral relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as efforts to strengthen cooperation in politics, economics, culture, and human rights.
