UN Secretary-General António Guterres made this statement in a video address to participants of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku, reports Report.
According to him, extreme temperatures, raging fires, droughts, and large-scale floods spare no country, with the poor being the most vulnerable.
The UN Secretary-General emphasized the importance of efforts to ensure that by next year, countries develop new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) aligned with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. It is also essential to ensure fairness, so that all countries have the resources to adapt to a changing planet and transition to a sustainable, renewable future.
“This includes a substantial increase in financial support for developing countries and the establishment of a well-funded loss and damage fund to help those most affected by natural disasters,” he said.
