President Ilham Aliyev attended the event, emphasizing the project’s significance for the country’s energy development.
“The opening of the ‘8 November’ Power Plant is a major event that strengthens Azerbaijan’s energy potential. The successful completion of this project in a short time showcases the professionalism and capabilities of our energy specialists,” the President stated.
According to Aliyev, the new plant will increase the efficiency of the energy system and further reinforce Mingachevir’s status as the energy hub not only of Azerbaijan but of the entire South Caucasus. Currently, more than 40% of the country’s electricity is produced in Mingachevir.
The President recalled that over the past two decades, Azerbaijan has built a modern energy system nearly from scratch, with new power stations constructed across the country and major reconstruction projects carried out in Mingachevir. As a result of these efforts, Azerbaijan now plays a key role in ensuring Europe’s energy security.
“Azerbaijan exports gas to 12 countries around the world. The wide geography of our gas supplies and the trust in us as a reliable partner place Azerbaijan at the forefront of the global energy landscape,” Aliyev noted.
In his speech, the President also highlighted the country’s strategic partnerships with Italy and China. He pointed out that Azerbaijan has signed declarations of strategic cooperation with both nations, and that his numerous visits to Rome and Beijing have yielded substantial results across multiple sectors. Italy is currently Azerbaijan’s number one trade partner, while China ranks among the country’s top economic partners.
