President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, communicated to Martin Chungong, the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, about Azerbaijan’s challenges with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Aliyev highlighted that the initiative to not ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation, proposed by a minority group within PACE, carries an anti-Azerbaijani bias and does not foster dialogue. He stated that such actions are contrary to the traditions of the parliamentary platform.
Asserting that the rights of the Azerbaijani delegation should be restored, the President warned that if these rights are not reinstated, Azerbaijan might reconsider its participation in the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.
Martin Chungong noted that the Inter-Parliamentary Union advocates for dialogue and inclusivity among parliamentarians, opposing exclusivity as such approaches do not gain approval and contradict the traditions of international parliamentarism.
