During a briefing, Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary for the President of Russia, announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will discuss the relations between their countries at a meeting in the Kremlin, which will continue with a working breakfast.
“The heads of the two states will have a conversation in the Kremlin,” Peskov detailed Putin’s schedule. He added that this discussion “will be continued over a working breakfast.”
The Press Secretary also noted that the leaders of both countries “will separately meet with veterans, builders, and workers of the Baikal-Amur Mainline.” He highlighted that “the father of the current President of Azerbaijan directly supervised this construction project in the USSR Council of Ministers at the time. Of course, this holds special significance — it is the 50th anniversary of the BAM construction — also for our bilateral relations.”
The Kremlin representative emphasized, “Azerbaijan is our good economic and trade partner, there are significant reserves for expanding all potential interactions. Azerbaijan is a major neighbor, friend, partner, and ally of Russia. The countries have great potential for developing cooperation and the political will to continue enhancing relations,” added Peskov, noting that Moscow is Baku’s third most important trade partner after Italy and Turkey.
