During his visit to Germany, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took part in the Munich Security Conference, which is being held at a time when traditional centres of power in global politics are shifting, the international security architecture is evolving, and competition between strategies and development models is intensifying. In such complex geopolitical circumstances, the importance of countries capable of adapting to global changes and asserting their foreign policy agenda on the international stage becomes particularly evident.

Today, Azerbaijan is one such country, as evidenced by President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in the Munich Conference. As always, his presence was not merely ceremonial, but a clear demonstration of the country’s growing political weight within the system of international relations.

Given that the conference addresses key issues — from European security and transatlantic relations to shaping a new world order — it is especially notable that Azerbaijan’s voice is being firmly heard in this serious dialogue among modern civilisations. This underscores that the independent Republic of Azerbaijan has further strengthened its position in regional and global politics, thanks in large part to Baku’s consistent, multidirectional foreign policy strategy and its role in ensuring Europe’s energy security. Today, it can be stated without hesitation that Azerbaijan holds the status of a reliable energy supplier, which in turn enhances its political influence on the European stage.

At the same time, Baku is demonstrating high activity in promoting transit initiatives, exemplified by the development of the Middle Corridor, which connects Asia and Europe through the Caspian region, and the implementation of the Zangezur Corridor project. Together, these initiatives enhance Azerbaijan’s significance as a strategically important logistics hub between East and West.

In this context, it should be noted that today the Republic of Azerbaijan is perceived by the international community as an independent decision-making centre, a status that has been firmly reinforced by the de facto peace established in the South Caucasus after Azerbaijan brought an end to the long-standing conflict.

It is important to emphasise a key point: it was Baku’s peace-oriented agenda that became a crucial factor for regional security, effectively laying the foundation for the signing of historic agreements in Washington on August 8, 2025. These agreements are largely based on initiatives consistently promoted by Azerbaijan to open communications and foster economic interconnectedness in the South Caucasus.

Thus, it can be confidently stated that Azerbaijan has effectively converted its regional peace agenda into an international framework for conflict resolution. This development sent a clear signal to external actors: in shaping the security architecture of the region, Baku has secured a vital role, demonstrating that no agreements in the South Caucasus can be implemented without its participation. Consequently, the country has strengthened its reputation as a state capable of translating political declarations into practical outcomes — a fundamental criterion of trust in modern diplomacy.

This further underscores the presence of strong political leadership and clearly defined national priorities, as evidenced by President Aliyev’s meetings with representatives of various states and global corporations on the sidelines of the Munich Conference. At the same time, genuine international interest in Azerbaijan is reflected in the close attention paid by leading global media, including France 24, to the President’s positions on international and regional issues.

In other words, Munich-2026 serves as yet another confirmation of an established reality: the Republic of Azerbaijan is confidently integrating into the emerging new world order not as a mere observer, but as an active and influential participant whose views are taken seriously by leading actors. Collectively, this demonstrates the respect accorded to a country capable of independently making crucial strategic decisions, ensuring security, and offering constructive solutions to complex challenges. At the core of this respect lies the personal authority of President Ilham Aliyev — a leader whose words are always backed by action.

Overall, Azerbaijan’s presence at the Munich Security Conference allows the country to directly convey its positions to Western elites, build connections with leaders of major states, and demonstrate a readiness for open dialogue. In a context of global turbulence, such platforms strengthen the country’s agency and reinforce its status as a responsible and independent actor.

Thus, it can be confidently stated that President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in Munich is a key element in shaping Azerbaijan’s international image — a country integrated into global processes, capable of engaging on equal terms with major centres of power, and contributing to the formation of a broad Eurasian agenda.
