“Our Europe is mortal; it can die. It all depends only on our choice. <…> There is a huge risk in the next decade that we will be weakened,” he said in a speech that launched the campaign for the European Parliament elections scheduled for early June.
According to the French leader, “Europe’s values are under threat everywhere,” and the continent’s countries are reacting too slowly to the “general armament of the world.”
Europe needs a new strategy for growth and strengthening sovereignty, Macron stated. “We need to inspire confidence, deter, be present, and continue efforts,” he emphasized.
He also believes that “the condition for Europe’s security is that Russia does not win the war in Ukraine.”
Macron confirmed his “choice in favor of returning to strategic ambiguity,” referring to the issue of possible deployment of Western troops on Ukrainian territory.
