Members of the Azerbaijani community have received permission from local authorities to hold the event, and law enforcement agencies are ensuring its safety.
At the protest organized by the Azerbaijani community of France, there are calls to protect the heritage of Khurshidbanu Natavan, to restore the name “Azerbaijani Park” in Evian, to honor the memory of the outstanding Azerbaijani poetess who actively fought for women’s equality, and to demonstrate solidarity in preserving her legacy.
Protesters chant slogans such as “Protect Natavan’s cultural heritage!”, “Demand the restoration of the name Azerbaijani Park!”, “Protect the heritage of the famous Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan!”, “Let’s respectfully acknowledge Natavan’s role in literature and the fight for women’s rights!”, and “Unite to preserve the legacy of Natavan, cultural heritage!”.
The act of vandalism against the monument erected in the “Azerbaijani Park” as a gift from Azerbaijan to the city of Evian-les-Bains, which became a sister city of Ismailli in 2017, has caused concern not only among Azerbaijanis living in France but also among the local community.
