This was reported by the Russian investigative project “System” citing European officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. On July 5, Orbán sent a letter from Azerbaijan explaining that he traveled to Kyiv and Moscow to “learn the positions of the sides.”
According to Orbán, Moscow believes time is on their side. Putin did not speak about the losses of the Russian occupation army but claimed that Ukraine allegedly loses about 40-50 thousand soldiers each month.
“Putin was surprised that the President of Ukraine rejected a temporary ceasefire. According to the Russian President, they are ready to consider any ceasefire proposal that does not serve as a hidden redeployment and regrouping of Ukrainian forces,” the letter states.
The Hungarian Prime Minister wrote that both Kyiv and Moscow are ready for negotiations only if both sides participate. Additionally, Putin assured him of the relevance of the “Istanbul agreements,” but did not respond to questions about his stance on the Ukrainian President’s peace formula and the summit in Switzerland.
Orbán urged Europe to “take the initiative” because the United States is currently preoccupied with preparations for the presidential elections. “If we cannot contain or stop this process, we will witness more dramatic losses and military events on the front lines in the next two months than ever before,” he added.
