As Hajiyev noted, the United Kingdom, which is hosting the European Political Community Summit, proposed a meeting between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia in the format of the Munich Security Conference.
“At the beginning of the meeting, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz participated in the Munich Security Conference, and afterwards the meeting continued between Azerbaijan and Armenia in a bilateral format. The UK, as the host, suggested the same format. However, the Armenian side refused. Thus, initially, the British Prime Minister was supposed to participate in the meeting, followed by a continuation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We consider Armenia’s refusal of this meeting as a sign of its intention to withdraw from dialogue and from advancing the peace agenda.
Although Armenia talks about peace on various platforms, it is entirely unclear why it refuses a meeting that promotes the peace agenda. The international community should understand that Armenia needs to truly value the opportunities for dialogue, not reject them. We highly appreciate this peaceful initiative by the UK,” said Hajiyev (all quotes from “Report”).
