The video circulating on social media, where Iranian children dressed in military uniforms threaten Azerbaijan, is a pure provocation, for which both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian authorities, who are crossing all moral boundaries, should be held responsible, says Paul Goble, American political analyst, former special adviser to the US Secretary of State.
According to him, Iran could be prosecuted in the UN International Court of Justice.
“Both sides (Azerbaijan and Iran—Ed.) recognize the jurisdiction of the Court, so Azerbaijan has every chance of winning the case and bringing Iran to justice. However, there is no guarantee that the case will be reviewed quickly because of the time-consuming bureaucratic procedures,” the American analyst cautioned.
According to the former adviser to the US Secretary of State, the Iranian army in its present state cannot seriously threaten Azerbaijan, although it can create certain problems.
“Iran’s military exercises in the area of the Strait of Hormuz are aimed not so much against Azerbaijan as against Israel and Great Britain. Most of the military currently deployed on the border with Azerbaijan are not the regular army. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) is a more radical but less well-trained and controllable group,” Paul Goble summed up.
