President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Alley of Martyrs to honor the cherished memory of the 20 January martyrs. He laid a wreath at the “Eternal Flame” monument while the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was performed.
The people of Azerbaijan, since the morning hours, have been paying respects at the Alley of Martyrs, placing fresh carnations on the martyrs’ graves to remember their eternal sacrifice. This day commemorates the tragic events of January 20, 1990, when former Soviet Union troops invaded Baku and other parts of Azerbaijan, resulting in 147 deaths and 744 injuries among civilians.
