President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to the US television channel Fox News during his visit to the United States. The channel’s website published an article highlighting key remarks made by the head of state.
Speaking on the recently reached agreement, President Aliyev said:
“I think it will be very difficult for any country, whether it’s a country situated in our region or far away, to say something bad about today’s achievement. Because today, we actually made a final step towards peace.”
The article emphasized that the agreement on the Zangazur TRIPP corridor is not directed against any country. According to the Azerbaijani leader, it is a new connectivity initiative that will become an important component of international transportation routes. President Aliyev expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump and his team for their role in facilitating the agreement.
During the interview, the head of state also touched upon relations with Russia and the December 2024 downing of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243. He stressed that Azerbaijan does not believe the incident was a deliberate attack:
“The only thing that we demanded was to admit that, punish those who committed that crime, even if it was not intentional, and pay compensation to the victims and to the airline.”
