This was highlighted by Hikmet Hajiyev, the aide to the President of Azerbaijan, as he responded to journalists’ questions on the sidelines of COP29.
Hajiyev expressed regret that this propaganda was disseminated by some leading Western media outlets.
“It is essential to remember that the global climate crisis is a challenge affecting the entire world and deserves full attention. Instead, certain media outlets and organizations linked to Western countries engaged in anti-Azerbaijan propaganda,” he emphasized.
According to the presidential aide, neither Azerbaijan, as the host country, nor the COP29 participants share this viewpoint.
“We are gathered here to find solutions to specific issues. These include assisting developing countries affected by climate change, setting new climate goals, and other matters that can expedite the transition to a green economy. Small island states and other developing nations also have expectations from the upcoming negotiations. This is what should have been discussed in the lead-up to COP29. However, the media focused on entirely different narratives. Despite this, Azerbaijan, as a member of the UN Framework Convention, has fulfilled all its obligations and provided a platform for addressing all key issues on the climate agenda,” Hajiyev added.
