Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed the President of Azerbaijan and congratulated him on his re-election as well as on the upcoming COP29 conference in Baku. El-Sisi noted that Aliyev’s visit strengthens bilateral relations and discussed potential cooperation in construction, transport, pharmaceuticals, oil, and infrastructure. He also emphasized the importance of the joint commission’s work and its upcoming meeting to further develop economic and trade relations.
El-Sisi spoke about Egypt’s efforts to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza and stressed the need for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. He expressed support for efforts to ensure peace and security in the South Caucasus.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude for the invitation and hospitality, noting that his visit contributes to the development of Azerbaijan-Egypt relations. Aliyev highlighted the regular political dialogue between the two countries and invited el-Sisi to the COP29 conference in Baku. He praised Egypt’s successful hosting of COP27 and noted the alignment of the two countries’ views on international issues.
Aliyev confirmed Azerbaijan’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and endorsed Egypt’s initiatives in this direction. He also mentioned progress in Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, including the agreement on borders and the return of occupied territories.
Aliyev emphasized the importance of increasing trade volume between Azerbaijan and Egypt and expressed confidence in further growth in energy, renewable energy, oil, and pharmaceutical industries. He also noted the significance of new transport corridors passing through Azerbaijan and advocated for expanding cooperation in transport and logistics.
