Today marks a significant event in the enduring brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, as the two nations celebrate the inauguration of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. This landmark energy project, officially opened via video link by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, reinforces the deep strategic and economic partnership between the two countries.
During his address at the opening ceremony, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the pivotal role of joint energy initiatives in shaping Eurasia’s energy security. He noted that major projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, and TANAP pipelines have not only strengthened bilateral ties but also played a transformative role in the regional energy landscape.
“Türkiye and Azerbaijan, as brotherly nations, have been implementing strategic projects that not only connect our countries but also contribute to the global energy market. Azerbaijani gas transported through Türkiye ensures the energy security of numerous countries today,” stated President Aliyev.
The newly inaugurated Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is a significant addition to this legacy, securing a stable energy supply for the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. President Aliyev recalled that just a year and a half ago, he and President Erdoğan jointly laid the foundation stone for this project in Nakhchivan. “Today, we celebrate the successful completion of this crucial initiative, ensuring energy independence for Nakhchivan,” he remarked.
President Erdoğan, in his address, reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to Azerbaijan and highlighted the strategic importance of energy cooperation between the two nations. He lauded the strong alliance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, emphasizing that their joint projects benefit not only their countries but also the broader Turkic world and global economic stability.
Following the speeches, the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline was officially inaugurated, symbolizing yet another milestone in the partnership between the two nations.
Beyond energy, President Aliyev also underscored the success of transportation projects, particularly the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which enhances connectivity between Türkiye and Azerbaijan. “This route holds great significance, offering economic and logistical advantages, and playing a key role in uniting the Turkic world,” he stated.
The inauguration of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is a testament to the deep-rooted cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, reflecting their shared commitment to economic progress, regional stability, and strategic development. This historic event reinforces the vision of both nations as leading players in global energy and infrastructure, setting the stage for even greater collaborations in the future.
