The updated indictment, filed in the Southern District of New York’s court database, encompasses previously levied charges against the senator and his wife, adding “new charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice,” reports TASS.
This addition does not alter the date for the trial, scheduled for May 6.
In September 2023, allegations surfaced that Menendez and his wife engaged in corrupt dealings with three New Jersey businessmen, accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes. The senator reportedly received cash, gold bars, luxury cars, and other valuables. Subsequently, the US Department of Justice brought additional charges against Menendez for acting as an unregistered agent for Egypt and Qatar.
It is noteworthy that Robert Menendez is known for his strong anti-Azerbaijani stance.
